Managing in Difficult Times: Can Psychotherapy Help?
The short answer is yes, psychotherapy can help. Psychotherapy offers a safe space to fully discuss the issues that are of concern to you. While friends and family can be very helpful and supportive, psychotherapy is there just for you and your growth. There is no topic “off limits” unless you draw that boundary yourself.
We have noticed that many people feel a little or a lot anxious about starting therapy. That is understandable, particularly if this is your first time. That is why it is important to take the time to find a psychotherapist that you feel comfortable with. This is why the free consultation time is such a useful tool.
Many people ask us what sorts of professionals offer psychotherapy. These professionals include Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychotherapists, Psychologists, and Physicians. Only Physicians are able to diagnose and prescribe medications. All psychotherapists must meet with criteria of the College they belong to. If you look at the websites for all of these professions, you will find a listing of all the professionals that are registered with that College. It is always a good idea to look at the College Register for any psychotherapist you are seeing, or plan to see.
These are difficult times, and resources can be tight. International, National and local events can often create anxiety for many. Many people are dealing with loss, either of a family member, friend, spouse or pet.
John and I are here to help and very happy to offer you a free consult.
